The Matrix as allegory for life

The Matrix is a seminal piece of film-making, ground-breaking and stylistic and just plain cool. But lately, I tend not to gravitate to the slick action sequences or the chic goth aesthetic or even the mind-bending ramifications of a computer simulation so real it is imperceptible from the real thing.
